So what does it actually take?

Sun Jul 19, 2009, 9:01 AM
As I was shuffling through pages looking for stock photography for poses, various design elements to use in my new sets of work I noticed some interesting things here on DA. I ran across a number of deviants who were banned but somehow they're work is still somewhere on the site. I'm aware that there's some sort of server where all the work is stored and in most cases its access to the account which is disabled but still... I've never been banned or even had work removed by the admins so I'm curious what the deal really is on that. I mean... seriously... does anyone actually know far you have to push the admin's buttons before they say "U GO AWAY NAOW!"

I just never really have had a grasp for how far is too far because I never let myself go that distance. I guess at the end of the day I'm fairly tame in comparison to some people, but I'm curious about what it actually takes. I guess harassment and spam are easy ways to say goodbye but what really makes a place called 'Deviant'ART label someone too devious?

If anybody can shed some light on this subject I'd be more than appreciate. I'm looking for real answers here regarding subject matter, comments, stuff like that. So if you're just an admin hater... please take it somewhere else. Now... if you truly feel that the administration here on DA is biased and doesn't give two shits one way or another then please by all means I'd love to hear some grounded debate about that.

In the end, if you can shed some light on what it actually takes to get banned then please go for it. I'd love to hear any insight.

Thanks again

The best thing I can say to you is that nothing is hard, only that it takes practice. I can give you some tips to get started if you like and some general direction but as far as the difficulty in making a comic it really depends on what you're trying to accomplish. For example when I sat down and stated doing Band Practice I wanted something that I could make quickly, create a unique style, and present a certain look and feel with. I laid down a lot of rules for myself right up front: All Gradient Blue/Black tones, Screen-toned to represent a Manga/Newsprint style, No more than 5 panels to a strip, and a simplified lineart style... now... originally... I wasn't much for screentones or for comics but had always wanted to try it... then I got some insight from a bud of mine here on DA who had some great tips and he did some amazing work on some Japanese Folk Tale inspired mangas about a year ago. If you want I can direct you to him and see if there's any help he can lend you. In the end I was always more a Graphic Designer. Alright man, hope that helps get you started.
